A strip graph treats all the data you collected as one long strip, and splits it by length — each item gets as much of the strip as it accounts for. It looks like cutting colored tape to size and laying the pieces end to end. The whole strip is always 100%, and the bigger an item's percentage, the longer its piece.
If 8 people out of 20 pick summer, that's 8÷20×100=40%, so summer takes up 40% of the strip. No matter how many items there are, the percentages always add up to 100%.
