Look at a repeating pattern of shapes
and guess what comes next!

These shapes repeat in a steady pattern. Choose which shape belongs where the "?" is. Try changing the difficulty level to take on trickier patterns!

โ—โ–ฒโ—โ–ฒโ—โ–ฒ โ€” what comes next? Most people can answer "โ—!" right away. Noticing what comes next by looking at repeating shapes or colors is what mathematicians call finding a pattern. It looks simple, but it's actually the beginning of some very important thinking skills.

Finding a pattern means spotting "the smallest chunk that repeats." In โ—โ–ฒโ—โ–ฒโ—โ–ฒ, the repeating chunk is 'โ—โ–ฒ' โ€” just two shapes. Once you spot that chunk, you can predict the next spot, and the one after that, forever. Longer chunks are a bit trickier, but the idea of "finding the repeat" stays exactly the same. Try different difficulty levels to take on a variety of patterns.
