🌀 Golden Ratio Rectangle Checker

Could the objects around me
be close to the golden ratio?

Credit cards, business cards, picture frames... when you measure the width and height of different objects, you often find surprisingly similar proportions. That proportion is the golden ratio (φ), about 1.618:1. Enter the dimensions of an object yourself and see how close it is.

What is the golden ratio? When a whole is divided into two parts, it is the special ratio where "longer part : shorter part" is the same as "whole : longer part." Its value is (1+√5)/2 ≈ 1.6180339....

💡 Whether the golden ratio was intentionally used in all great works of art and architecture is debated — some point out that people tend to overinterpret similar-looking rectangles as golden-ratio rectangles. Even so, proportions very close to the golden ratio can be observed in the Parthenon and in the compositions of various famous paintings.
