Bar graphs are great for comparing sizes between categories, and line graphs are great for seeing how something changes over time.
Even with the same data, the graph that fits best depends on what you want to show. A bar graph uses the height of each bar to show a value, so it's great for comparing several categories at a glance to see which is bigger or smaller. A line graph connects points with a line, showing the flow of how a value rises and falls over time.
On a line graph, a steep rise or fall means the value changed a lot in that stretch, and a flat line means barely any change. Data with a time order, like daily temperatures, suits a line graph โ data comparing separate categories, like student counts by season, suits a bar graph better.
